Dr. Hassan Shahryar is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Burjeel Medical City. He is a Fellow of the
American College of Physicians (FACP) and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh (FRCP
Ed). Dr. Shahryar received his medical degree from Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi,
Pakistan. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Penn State University Milton S Hershey
Medical Centre, Hershey USA where he also completed his fellowship in Haematology and Medical
Oncology. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in Geriatrics and Aging from the University of
Rochester, New York, USA.
During his post graduate training Dr. Shahryar participated in the Futures Scholars Program by the
American Medical Directors Association (AMDA) as well as in the NCCN’s Fellow Recognition
Program. After completing his postgraduate training, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor of
Medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Centre and an attending physician at Mount Nittany
Medical Centre in State College, PA USA. Subsequent to that he worked at Fox Chase Cancer Centre
in Philadelphia, PA as attending physician and Head of Medical Oncology at Jeanes Hospital, Temple
University Philadelphia PA, USA.
Prior to joining Burjeel Medical City he was working as the Head of Medical Oncology Department at
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Lahore, Pakistan. Dr. Shahryar is
formally fellowship trained in Geriatric Oncology holding board certifications in both Geriatrics and
Medical Oncology & Haematology. He has a special interest in the complex treatment of older
patients with cancer and blood disorders. Dr. Shahryar specializes in a wide variety of cancers
including but not limited to the cancers of the Breast, Lung, Prostate, Kidneys, Urinary Bladder,
Testicular, Gastrointestinal and Blood cells.
Dr. Shahryar has published original research in oncology in several peer reviewed journals and made
presentations at the annual meetings of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European
Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), American Society of Haematology (ASH) and American Society
of Geriatrics (AGS). He has mentored medical students and serves as a supervisor for post graduate
trainees in medical oncology. He has appeared on national news and TV networks in raising cancer
awareness in service to the community. He also regularly volunteers in the public health initiatives
in low- and middle-income countries.
