Dr. Omar Khader Abu-Sham holds a degree in medicine and surgery (MBBS) from Cairo University School of Medicine, where he studied through Scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research. He also holds a qualification from the Jordanian Medical Council as a Specialist of General Surgery.
Dr Omar started his career by as General Practitioner (GP) / Emergency Doctor at Queen Rania Hospital/Ministry of Health, Jordan. He also had served as General Practitioner at Al-Khalidi Medical Centre in Amman. Then he went through his Residency program in General Surgery at Al-Basheer Hospital,Amman, for five years of intense surgical training in one of the largest hospitals in Jordan.
After his Residency he got the JMC certificate as General Surgery Specialist, then Dr Omar had also obtained Fellowship in Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery at Royal Medical Services Amman, Jordan for about two years ,after which he moved back to his previous post as Specialist General Surgery, Ministry of Health, Jordan.
As Specialist of General Surgery, Dr Omar had the experience of working under high pressure conditions in the emergency and critical care and yet carried a disposition of calm and quiet understanding of the situation at hand and took decisions wisely, even on the workings of MDT.
He has had immense exposure to advanced surgeries including living donor transplantation, a cadaveric liver transplant as well as a host of other general surgery and emergency interventions including splenectomy, thyroid, colectomies, laparoscopic and open surgeries such like appendectomies, cholecystectomies, lap distal Pancreatectomy, left lateral hepatectomies and laparoscopic hydatid cysts excisions and other common general surgery procedures like anal conditions and abdominal hernia . His track-record in surgery is an asset of specialist skill and experience for Burjeel Medical City.
