Dr. Ajith received his medical degree from St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School in London, United Kingdom (UK). He has a vast experience in training and working in a number of eminent Neurosciences Centres, including the Institute of Neurology and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals in London, Newcastle, Manchester, and Edinburgh. He was a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Neurology in Newcastle (UK) for 11 years, before moving to work at Mafraq Hospital in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2009.
At Mafraq Hospital Dr. Ajith was the Chief of Neurology Department from 2009 till 2019. He was the Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and the Chair of Medicine, from 2010 till 2019. Dr. Ajith was the longest standing Chair of Medicine in SEHA in recent times. In 2009 he established the first 24/7 intravenous thrombolysis service for acute ischemic stroke in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
In 2019 Dr. Ajith was chiefly responsible from moving the Neurology and Neurophysiology Departments from Mafraq Hospital to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), a new 760-bedded hospital jointly operated by Mayo Clinic (US) and SEHA (Government Healthcare Provider in UAE). At SSMC he was the Chief of Neurology and Chair of the SSMC Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
In July 2013 Dr. Ajith was selected as the first Chair of the SEHA Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and continued in this role until he left SEHA in August 2021. In July 2019 Dr. Ajith was selected as the first Physician Lead in the SEHA Ethics and Compliance Committee. Dr. Ajith is an Associate Professor for the Gulf Medical University (UAE), and an Adjunct Clinical Professor for the Khalifa University College of Medicine & Health Sciences (UAE).
Dr. Ajith has published numerous articles and chapters in international peer-reviewed journals and books and presented in numerous national and international conferences. In 2016, he organized the first Neuro-degenerative Disorders Forum in Abu Dhabi, which has subsequently become established as a popular and successful annual event.
Besides being an eminent Clinical Neurologist, Dr. Ajith has an extensive experience in clinical leadership and managerial roles. He also has an academic background in leadership and management. In 2017 the Royal College of Physicians and Birkbeck College (University of London) jointly awarded Dr. Ajith a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Leadership (Merit grade). In November 2019 he completed his MBA Essentials Course with the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is currently studying for a full time MBA with the University of Durham, having been awarded the prestigious Durham University Business School Achievement Scholarship.
